Affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine

We are pleased to announce that as of October 1, 2010, Cardiovascular Specialists of Central Maryland is now a Community Specialty Practice of Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Since 1975, our physicians and staff have provided comprehensive cardiovascular consultation and diagnostic services to the Howard County community.  We have grown to be the largest cardiology practice based in Howard County, with nine Board-certified cardiologists, two physician assistants, and over 40 clinical and administrative support staff.  Our clinical cardiologists practice exclusively at Howard County General Hospital (HCGH), which has been a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine since 1998, and we perform invasive and interventional cardiac procedures at HCGH as well as at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.  As a private practice, we have long been committed partners with HCGH and Johns Hopkins in the care of the patients in our community.

Our new affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine enables us to further align our patient care capabilities and philosophies with those of our dedicated hospital, HCGH, and the Johns Hopkins network, as well as to ensure continued excellent cardiac care for our patients as the health care reform landscape continues to evolve.

So what does this mean for our patients?

·        The providers and staff you have come to know and rely on for your cardiovascular health are still here and eager to continue to care for you.

·        As a part of Johns Hopkins Medicine, we have access to the resources and support of one of the premier health care systems in the country, including access to outstanding advanced cardiovascular and cardiac surgical capabilities.

·        With our new offices (now just a year old) in the Medical Pavilion at Howard County on the HCGH campus, we have the facilities and space in which to grow to care for our expanding patient population and provide the most current, state-of-the-art cardiac diagnostic testing options.

·        As a community specialty practice, we are an additional resource for the primary care physicians of Johns Hopkins Community Physicians whose patients require cardiovascular consultation and/or diagnostic services.

What about the transition of our current patients to Johns Hopkins Medicine?

·        For patients we have seen prior to October 1, 2010, your medical records from our private practice are already here!   Your cardiologist continues to have full access to the information in our Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, and your continuing care and our clinical recordkeeping will be seamless.

·        Our new billing records will start with services provided October 1, 2010 and forward; for services we provided prior to October 1, you will continue to be billed in the name of our previous (private) practice.  Our Business Office staff can assist with any questions you may have about “old” and “new” bills.

·        We continue to participate with all of the insurance plans that we participated with under our private practice – and will be adding some new plans to those we participate with as a result of our affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine.   Please inquire if you have questions as to whether we will now be “in network” with your plan.

If you have other questions about our affiliation as a Community Specialty Practice of Johns Hopkins Medicine, please feel free to contact our Executive Director, Cathy Marlowe, at (443) 276-9000.

Very truly yours,

The Providers and Staff of
